Back Charleston Side Kicks

The Back Charleston Side Kicks is often used as a way of exiting the Back Charleston, via an additional kicking sequence. The repeating section of the move uses a common pattern for Lindy Hop kicking moves: two kicks on each foot, then a mirrored repeat on the other foot.

For beginning dancers, it is easiest to treat the main section of this move as a learnt sequence that is performed by rote. However, the leader should be directing the action: turning the follower by pulling and pushing with his hands, and even leading the changes of weight between kicks by slightly lifting or lowering his hands. This lead-and-follow means that the dancers are capable of performing variations on the move (for example, Side Kicks to Back Charleston or Back Charleston Travelling Side Kicks) that wouldn't be possible if the move were treated as a choreographed sequence.
