Follower Block

This move is unusual because the follower takes the initiative in altering the move that is being performed. The leader is performing a normal American Spin, and so the move starts that way. However, when the spin itself is led, the follower takes the opportunity to change the move by jumping forwards onto her left foot and blocking the spin with her left hand against the leader. She can then use this hand to push off for a spin in the opposite direction, extending the move by two beats.

Because the leader is not expecting this move, he is likely to perform normal six-beat rhythm footwork, and so he has to add on an extra even pair of beats at the end to sync up with the follower.
