Closed Basic

The Closed Basic is a common six-beat move, often used as punctuation between other moves. The rock step that starts the move can be performed with the dancers facing each other (as described below), or the leader can use his right arm to momentarily open up a gap between the dancers, with the follower turning to her right as she steps back.

The Closed Basic can also be very useful on a crowded dance floor, as it occupies very little space—the leader can rotate while repeating this move, looking for space for more extensive moves.
