Back Charleston Kick Around

The basic movement of this move is fairly straightforward—the dancers rotate clockwise as a couple, kicking with their left feet as they do so. It does need a clear lead, however, since the follower is expecting to continue normal Back Charleston footwork.

The leader provides this clear lead by closing the gap between the dancers, and using the close hold to make sure the follower's weight stays on her right foot.

1. B:PbL1L Start with the leader standing behind the follower, facing in the same direction, with the leader's left hand holding the follower's left hand and his right hand holding her right hand; both dancers have their weight on their right feet. Both the leader and the follower point backward with their left feet, turning slightly to their left. The slight turn helps to prepare the follower that something different is about to be lead.
2. B:StL Both the leader and the follower lift their left feet next to their right feet, with the left knee bent. The leader moves up closer to the follower and puts his right hand across her front.
