The Squat Charleston involves a slightly tricky movement that needs a little practice; as the dancer steps to
one side, at the same time they need to lift the other leg up behind the stepping leg. Once this movement is
mastered, the move as a whole follows a pattern that is common in
the Charleston and in jazz steps: the
step alternates between mirrored versions in a pattern LRLLRLRR (see the Choreographed Sequences
section for other examples of this sort of pattern).
